Greetings from the office of the World Student Christian Federation-North America! I am writing to share news about the current work of the WSCF and to seek your continued financial support for the Federation.
Our friends at Peace for Life have provided us with a great resource in their Jan-Feb e-new magazine.
In "New Struggles, Renewed Commitment," Peace for Life's General Secretary Omega Chilufya Bula presents the challenges and struggles confronting the people and the churches in 2016. She reiterates the need to build on the accomplishments and breakthroughs that the PfL accomplished in 2015 and to reaffirm our commitment to resist militarised globalisation amid escalating crisis of the empire.
Shared by our friends at World Student Christian Federation Asia Pacific:
"The suicide of Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula on Sunday has prompted 131 academics from around to world to express their concern about caste discrimination in Indian universities.
'This suicide is not an individual act,' they said in a statement issued on Tuesday. 'It is the failure of higher educational institutions in democratic India to meet their most basic obligation: to foster the intellectual and personal growth of India’s most vulnerable young people.'"
The World Student Christian Federation -North America (WSCF-NA) stands in solidarity with the Lumad of the Philippines. We are calling on our churches, communities, universities and colleges to join this call and stand with the Lumad of the Philippines too.
It is only 9 days until the WSCF North American Region's first Regional Assembly! The Prep Committee is busy making sure that everything goes off without a hitch. Stay tuned for updates before, during and after NARA!
